Physical Factors
Factor How will this affect a person’s development? Consider PIES
Diet e.g. obesity, anorexia, protein, Vitamin C, Calcium Obesity is a term used for someone who is overweight with body fat which is caused by eating more calories that they burn off and so the un-used calories turn into fat instead.
The physical effects are having:
Type 2 diabetes
Heart disease
Some types of cancer such as breast cancer and colon cancer
Strokes
The emotional effects of being obese are that people would feel more self conscious of their body and eat more food to comfort their insecurities. This could also lead to more depression and they would feel sadder because they aren’t comfortable in their own skin.
Socially someone who was obese would be limited to what they do e.g. activities such as p.e or other lessons because they would be self conscious about themselves or physically not be able to do anything. This would make them become isolated from others as well. Furthermore people who are obsess may have a loss of friends because they would prefer being alone or not confident enough to socialise with others. If others bully the obese person then they might decide not to come into school to avoid being picked on. This means they might lack knowledge as peers because they don’t attend school as much as others.
These are the intellectual effects.
Amount and type of physical activity Sexual health e.g. Chlamydia,
Herpes
,gonorrhoea Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs).The physical effects for women are:
Pain when urinating
Changes in vaginal discharge
Bleeding after/during sex
If Chlamydia is not treated, it can spread to the womb and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
The physical effects for men:
Pain in testicles
Pain when urinating
Discharge from the tip of the penis(this can be white, cloudy or watery discharge)
If Chlamydia is not treated, it can cause orchitis (swollen testicles), reactive arthritis, and infertility.

The emotional effects are that the person would feel disgusted or ashamed in themselves because they could have easily prevented it so they might blame themselves. They would feel guilty as well because it could have been their fault that the partner they had sexual intercourse with got Chlamydia. A person with this could also feel paranoid about what others would think of them and feel insecure or scared about having sex again.
Socially a person with Chlamydia would have future issues with relationships and having sex with a partner. This would make them want to avoid going out or having serious relationships.
Intellectually it allows the person who had Chlamydia to become more informed about what Chlamydia is and how to prevent and overcome it.
Experience of illness and disease e.g. asthma, cancer, flu Asthma is a long term chronic condition affecting the lungs. The physical effects are:
Coughing
Wheezing
Breathlessness
A tight chest
It is caused by common triggers like dust mites, animal fur, pollen, tobacco smoke, exercise, cold air and chest infections.
The emotional effects of a person with asthma would be upset because most activities would be restricted because of asthma problems or even if the person wanted to do activities they would have to keep their inhaler with them at all times and use it when necessary. This could make the person feel burdened with the condition. By not being able to do certain activities it would make the child feel hopeless because they can’t do things without their inhaler.
Socially a person with asthma would have to limit their physical activities; this could mean a loss in activities they enjoyed most or being able to spend time with friends.
Intellectually a person with asthma might have to take days off for school if they had a asthma attack, this would mean they lose educational time to
