To be under that kind of stress had to wreak havoc on children’s subconscious. I can’t imagine believing that these techniques would protect me from a bomb of that magnitude. I am sure if I had grown up when the government restricted us from information about atomic bombs I would have believed anything. As citizens back then we were led to believe that things would be ok because the government made a video that taught us that duck and cover would somehow save us from harm. This is comparable to what we see on the media everyday about upgraded airport security making our airway travel safer since 9/11. Another very comparable idea now as there was during the cold war would be color coded terror threat level charts. This could be compared to the cold war eras Defcom charts in which the number or color during the terror threat times we have now changes according to the threat level against the United States and its citizens. The United States has always kept list of people they have viewed as a threat. During the cold war error they kept a list of communist or communist sympathizers which was monitored by the FBI. During the era we are in now our government keeps a similar list of people whom they view to be terrorist or possible terrorist sympathizers. One major similarity between the two lists is that you can be on the list just for voicing out your disagreements with how the

Communism spread dramatically during the Cold War. Russia successfully introduced communism to many smaller, unstable countries. Cuba joined forces with Russia in the effort to advance communism around the world. Technology also advanced at breakneck speeds. The US and Russia raced to claim the title “First Country to Enter Space.” Russia won that race on April 12, 1961 when Yuri Gagarin entered space and orbited Earth. The US now needed a goal that would "better" the Russian success, and President…
The Impact of Cold War on American Society An American-Soviet combat, the “Cold War”, dominated the second half of the 20th century. It also resulted in America being the super-power nation of the world and the end of communism. While the US quietly battled for the popularity and respect of their political view, the nation’s society changed. The Cold war was different from other wars because it was as much as a propaganda war as a war with the military involved. During the Cold War, America’s view…

Cold War Era The end of World War II brought sweeping changes across the globe. The United States was not only stronger after the war, it now enjoyed economic stability not felt since the onset of the Depression in the 1030’s. The war’s end also highlighted the rising conflict between the communist beliefs of the Soviet Union and the capitalist philosophy that dominated the United States. This distinct separation in ideologies between nations that were once allies, and the tensions created by…

Some countries decided that the best political strategy was to not get involved in other country’s affairs. Unlike the peaceful approach, other nations came to the conclusion that they should build up brand new military forces. The Cold War caused the…
cold war Everywhere I read about the cold war it says it is unlike any war the U.S ever fought, but why is that? What makes this war so much different that it stands out from all the rest? What did the war change in the world around us; did it benefit us or ruin us? Did the war cause other violent wars after it was over? How did it affect our president at the time, and how did he affect the cold war? Why don’t we take a look at our past and find out? As we start at the very beginning of this war…
IA The Cold War was a time of great trauma and fear. The Cold War became a very assertive influence of the lives of many people, especially the ones that lived in the United States. People in the United States were terrified of communism, people now used propaganda to represent the cold war, and during this time there was a conflict on racial inequality inside the United States. People in the United States were terrified of communism. They hated everything about it, for it was like the paradox…
Origins of the Cold War The Cold War was an ideological war between the two powerhouse nations at the time, the USA and the USSR. There are multiple reasons as to why such great tension arose between the two great nations. One of these was Russia’s fear and intimidation of America, and also the fact that they felt excluded from the allied forces. The USA had proven themselves to be a dominant nation, and at one stage, Russia thought they might even attack them. This caused a lot of tension between…
itself; rational self-interest will create the best for the most. It is useful that we can trace both the beginning of the USA and of what Communism would come to see as "Western capitalism" to the same year. 1848 Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels publish The Communist Manifesto. Along with other writings, this will become the foundation of Soviet Communism. Marx and Engels see the world defined by material conditions, and theorize the revolution that will re-arrange the existing (Industrialist)…
