The CMHC Foundation proposes an expansion of the project it began in 2011 and continued with the support of a YPPSF in the summer of 2012. Since 2010, the CMHC Foundation has been exploring ways to support CMHC clients to reduce stresses related to their financial and economic problems, recognizing that these problems can not only exacerbate but can also be the direct cause of mental health problems. This exploration has included studying the feasibility of linking clients with existing local service providers to help them manage their money more effectively, developing peer group support mechanisms around budgeting and saving, and working with local service providers to improve the types of services that meet the specific financial service needs of low income people with mental

CMHC and the Community Services Network for (CSN) which CMHC is the lead agency, annually provide public sector community mental health services to over 7,000 women and men in Greater New Haven. The Foundation is a private non-profit supporting organization for CMHC and the CSN. Through its work with CMHC and the CSN, it provides direct and immediate financial assistance to clients and also funds small innovative grants that improve access to resources and opportunities so that people in recovery can sustain safe, healthy and meaningful lives in the community.
• Specific skills/experience required for the project (Please list):
• Knowledge of financial services as they relate to low income individuals • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with people from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to self-initiate and manage projects independently • Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse disorders, including but not limited to firsthand experience • Knowledge of and experience with participatory action research practices • Demonstrated commitment, reliability, punctuality • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, internet, email, social networking; familiarity with statistical analysis software such as STATA or SAS would be a plus) • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff • Facility & flexibility in adjusting to various demands of job duties
• Additional requirements ( i.e.- a car or working weekends):
Ability to travel in New Haven; a car is not required. Weekend hours are available
