Classical Greece
Discobolos (The Discus Thrower) is a famous Greek sculpture of an athlete that was completed in the severe period, circa 460-450 BC. At this moment Myron wanted to capture the athletic energy when the discus thrower is about to release his throw. It is to capture the moment between Harmony and balance. This sculpture was the first to be the representative for the Olympics and the sculpture represents it. The Olympics started at the very same time that this sculpture was finished and has represented the athletes in the Olympics. The sculpture was the model for all athletes and represented them. When anyone would look at it they would know exactly what it was and who the brilliant athlete was. The culture was known for telling their stories through sculptures. This was a way for Myron to tell the story of this athlete and what he represented.
Hellenistic Greece
“Nike of Samothrace” this sculpture was sculpted after the Greek Goddess Nike (Victory) out of Marble around 190BC. This sculpture not only represents the Goddess Nike but also represents the sea Battle. The sculpture portrayed not only the beauty of Nike but also the courage in the battle and was known for its beautiful and intricate cravings on the sculpture and most famous for the way the clothes drape and have movement to it. The sculpture I believe had an influence on how society looked at women in battle. Still beautiful but also strong and victorious at the same time. This piece was date back to around 190BC around the time that the sea battle was taking place it showed that women could come out just as victorious as men.
Etruscan civilization

"Sarcophagus of the Spouses" is of a married couple that is protryde as lounging together in the afterlife. This piece was made out of terracotta around the 6th century. The sarcophagus shows a different side of how the women were viewed and the love between the man and the women. Many women in positions this way with a man were ever their wife and normally would have been courtesans. These sarcophaguses at this time were mainly tombs in which the person whom was buried in them would want in their afterlife. This also explained a story on how the person lived their lives every day. The art piece really tells a story of the women and the many lives that civilization affect that it had on them and showed what and how women were looked at. How women were looked at was a big influence on this piece. It was very rare where you would see women in such an intimate way.
Roman Republic
The Coliseum is one of the most famous pieces of architecture known to men it was complete in 80AD. The coliseum was built as the amplitheater to host not only spectator sports and plays, but also became famous for the gladiator sports and how many lives were lost during the events. It is now known as one of the most hunted destinations in the world and is said that you can still hear the screams of the lost souls. The had a major impact on the civilizaion not just during that time but also today the city is really centered around this great piece of architecture and has become one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world. The architecture showed greatness and what it was meant for during those times. Great emperors and royalty gathered here for events.
