Language And Discrimination

After listening Mr Michael Milone’s speech, I know much about the civil right movement and realize that language is a really powerful tool to change how we see the world. I understand why we need civil right movement when I see the picture showed a kid hold a board says “ Segregation must go !” Black people suffered so much during the segregation.
Martin Luther king was an American pastor, activist, humanitarian and leader in the Civil Right Movement. He uses nonviolent civil disobedience based on his christian belief to contribute much to the Civil Right Movement. He gave the speech “I have a dream” in the front of Lincoln Memorial in 1963 which is a very powerful speech that fight for equality. After that, the problem of racial discrimination decreased a lot. People realized that everyone of use should have equal rights no matter you are white yellow or black.
However, discrimination is still exist and language is still the carrier which change the truth. For example, the word “nigger” they used before totally segregate black people with others. It gives people a reason to believe that black people are different from us. I have saw a lot of old movies says “ But I never see a nigger that wouldn’t lie”. That gives people a bad impression with black people without get on with them. Another example showed in the speech is the word Bossy which segregate
