All about my mother is a movie done by Pedro Almodovar. The movie is about a lady by the name Manuella, who travels back to the city where she was raised in, after the demise of her son Esteban who succumbed to his death through a car accident. The main reason of her coming back is to search the biological father of Estaban, Lola, who had no idea whether he had fathered a son. Manuella finds herself playing the role of a mother before finding Lola to a young lady, Rosa, who is pregnant by Lola and has also contracted HIV (Allainson, 2001). Almodovar has used mise-en-scene extensively in this movie, for example, colour has been used exceptionally here in conveying the intended messages. The first scene shot in the hospital uses colours blue and green so as to portray the calmness and friendliness found in hospitals. The next scene is shot in Manuella’s kitchen where warm colours are used making us feel good and relaxed. Manuella also is seen wearing an appealing red shirt which makes us feel comfortable with her. This warm red colour enables us to regard her as a sociable and motherly. Another good use of colour is seen during Rosa's death and funeral where the black clothing used captures sadness and mourning. Before Rosa’s death, Manuella's grieve is also seen through her clothing (Adamson, 2007). The bright red coat she wears changes to light pink and blue. This gradual change in
