Cardiovascular system (Coronary Heart Disease)
Coronary heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the UK, CHD causes around 94,000 deaths in the UK each year. Coronary heart disease is the term which describes what happens when your heart is surrounded by clogged up fat in the coronary arteries. This can then lead to heart attacks, which can lead into other issues.
If you look after your heart these issues may not affect you it can also result in you not having to suffer with CHD, by keeping your heart healthy this means you are protecting yourself from heart attack, stroke and dementia. This can affect a individual who is suffering with CHD who is in their late age of life because at this age in their body their heart begins to shrink which can give them a bigger risk of getting CHD, a alternative to this could be that if they have looked after their heart and have a healthy lifestyle this can be lowered.
Canary heart disease can also interrupt social, emotional and physical stages of life, as you may be used to having a routine which would then be interrupted, an example of this could be that he/she would attend a weekly community session where it consists of all different activities going on which gives you a chance to get involved in everything, it may only be five or ten minutes away. But due to this issue it could make you feel less sociable, like they may not want to walk or take any transport to the centre.
Respiratory system (Emphysema) Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Emphysema is a disease which is caused to related activities involving the lungs which can cause the lungs to shut down, or struggle to complete active activities, such as exercise.

It is thought there are over 3 million people living with the disease in the UK, of which only about 900,000 have been diagnosed. This is because many people who develop symptoms of COPD do not get medical help because they often dismiss their symptoms as a ‘smoker’s cough’.

One of the main issues which can lead to having emphysema is smoking, smoking is a very high issue as it can affect everyone in different ways. But as you get older it could get worse, it could make your breathing hard to deal with and not be able to have a normal lifestyle. If a elderly person struggles with emphysema this can make their lifestyle worse as they struggle to breath and have a intake of oxygen due to their age and organs etc. It has been said that there is no cure to emphysema only help which could be given in you in tablets/medication which you have to take on a daily basis, or in some NHS services depending on how bad you suffer with emphysema you are given a oxygen concentrater which can help you breath properly, this is a handheld system which can be used in your home. This illness can affect you in your confidence and self-esteem, as you may feel embarrassed and feel like you are being put under pressure. This could then lead to you putting on serious amounts of weight which could make your breathing more of a struggle to handle. You may not want to travel anywhere which can lead to depression and anxiety, you could also get regular pains as you are not used to walking/being active. You would also be more prone to chest infections.

This can also affect you socially as you may take a lot of time out to do nothing, when you could be visiting family and friends but due to your illness this slows everything down. You could get out of breath and feel rather embarrassed.
