Formal Speech: Immigrant Child Crisis at the Border
The news that thousands of unaccompanied children are crossing the U.S. border is just making headlines, but the surge has been happening for months, even years. Since October, more than 57,000 children have been caught traversing the U.S.-Mexico border without an adult. That’s more than double the number in 2012 and triple the number in 2011, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. Border Patrol was already noticing an increase in children coming up from Central America in the fall of 2011. Most of the apprehended children are between 14 and 18-years-old, according to the Women's Refugee Commission. These children come here for various reasons. Some come to avoid the growing violence that has taken over their countries. Other’s come due to the inevitable poverty that their families live in, and others just come to join their loved ones who have long been gone. Regardless of the different reasons, one thing is certain, the number of children has overwhelmed the U.S. Immigration System, which faces a backlog of hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants, according to the Associated Press. The government no longer knows what to do, President Obama is asking Congress for $3.7 billion to tackle the issue, which has become a flashpoint in the debate over immigration. I will be representing an activist group trying to get funding and support from
Child abuse 1. Child abuse is more than bruises or broken bones. Not all child abuse is as obvious. Ignoring children’s needs, putting them in unsupervised, dangerous situations, or making a child feel worthless or stupid are also forms of child abuse. Regardless of the type of child abuse, the result is serious emotional harm. 2. Children are suffering from a hidden epidemic of child abuse and neglect. Every year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving nearly…
influences. From this belief Erikson developed the epigenetic sequence, it has eight stages starting from birth and going till death. Each stage has a different crisis that the individual has to face, and complete, in order to move on to the next stage. In addition, to each crisis if the individual is successful in passing through the crisis they will also gain an Ego strength (Sollod, p. 290). While the epigenetic sequence closely models the psychosexual stages of Sigmund Freud, Erikson added an…
Erik Erikson Erik Erikson was a German born American developmental psychologist. Erikson is the father of the famous phrase “Identity Crisis”. He also comes up with a theory on psychosocial development of human being. He believed all human being personality is shape by the experience they have throughout their childhood and adulthood. Some of this experience can either be positive or negative. These experiences and challenges that we go throughout in our childhood help us…
Nursing Stress can affect intimate relationships in the family setting. Although stress is normal and natural in the family setting, severe stress can lead to serious family situations such as domestic violence, alcoholism, substance abuse, and even child neglect. The outcome of the family’s situation during the stressful event depends on how the family responds and thrives to the stressful situation. A stressful event can be in the form of an acute or chronic illness in the family, sudden role changes…

Like crisis intervention, task centred practice is short term which may lessen dependence. There is flexibility to allow a new contract for extra sessions if needed, although time limits cannot be lengthened excessively in an attempt to avoid aimless drifting…
story, but we are left wondering if she under goes the operation. Of the many symbols from the story, I feel that the main three are the hills, white elephants, and the railroad station. The theme is about how Jig sees the opportunity of keeping her child and having a happy life. The man in the story fails to see the possibilities and encourages her to go through with the abortion. The hills symbolize obstacles that we must overcome, but they are not colossal mountains. This represents the fact that…
through the eight life stages as a function of negotiating his or her biological forces and sociocultural forces. Each stage is characterized by a psychosocial crisis of these two conflicting forces (as shown in the table below). If an individual does indeed successfully reconcile these forces (favoring the first mentioned attribute in the crisis), he or she emerges from the stage with the corresponding virtue. For example, if an infant enters into the toddler stage (autonomy vs. shame & doubt) with…
population growth. The government feared a looming crisis in the 1960s where every 3 years another 55million people where added top the population. The government feared a Malthusian crisis where population growth would completely outstrip resource availabillity. They launched into China’s now famous one child policy in 1979, after Chinese demographer Liu Zeng calculated China’s OPTIMUM population at 700million. The government set the limit at one child per family – a total fertility rate of 1! The…
a natural phenomenon. (Clark, 2013). That does not mean that there is no physical or biological base, which form the important characteristics that distinguish children from adults. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) defines a child as a person under the age of eighteen. Also it highlights the role of both parents and family in the care and protection of children. Furthermore, it acknowledges the obligation the state holds to help carry out these duties (Children’s…
