Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan couldn't have asked for more. This film isn’t your regular Bollywood film for it targeting audience more towards south India. Chennai Express is topping the Indian box office, crossing the Three Thousand dollar mark in its first weekend, which seems to be a record which no film has made so far based on Times of Inda. “It was a "monstrous weekend", says trade analyst Taran Adarsh, for the Rohit Shetty-directed film. It released on the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on August 9. "Chennai Express Thursday previews (earned) Rs 6.75 crore, Friday (opening day) Rs 33.12 crore, Saturday Rs 28.05 crore, Sunday Rs 32.50 crore. Total Rs 100.42 crore nett. Monstrous weekend.”

This movie also features the gorgeous Deepika Padukone, the action comedy Filming began in October 2012 and was wrapped up by May 2013. The film released a day earlier in the United Kingdom and the United States on 8 August 2013 and worldwide on 9 August 2013, with a budget of Rs 70 crore (112.2 million dollars). On the opening day itself, investers had predicted that the movie could break records well pass its debut weekend.

Chennai Express is a 2013 Indian romantic action comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Gauri Khan under the banner Red Chillies Entertainment.The film features Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. Chennai Express was heavily promoted by its cast and director across all quarters. It managed roaring business not just nationally but, but also in foreign shores via paid previews, and on its opening day.

During the opening day Shah Rukh khan himself joined some audience members in a Mumbai, India in theatre on Sunday as he wanted to himself experience their laughter.

Principal photography began on 27 September 2012. Extensive paid previews were held in India on 8 August 2013 as well, upon release, despite critical reaction being apparently mixed, the film enjoyed an excellent response at the box office and broke records for the opening weekend collections for a Hindi film in India and abroad. Despite receiving such an overwhelming response, celebrities haven't stopped promoting the film, which is co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and UTV Motion Pictures. Miss Asia Pacific World 2012 Himangini Singh and Akshitaa Agnihotri, finalist of Femina Miss India 2013 are participating in a charity program in Kathmandu on Monday where Chennai Express will be screened. The funds raised by it will be donated to flood victims in Nepal through Mumbai-based NGO Project Crayon. This movie is the second collaboration between Khan and Padukone
