Vintage Hawaiian Pottery The most exquisite form of art is the kind that enchants you with its beauty, and eases the struggles that may consume one’s daily life. Coping with my internal self by expressing myself through art and writing have always come easy for me. Pottery, for me, is a whole other experience. Before I learned the techniques, I used to become overwhelmed and stressed with my work. However, this year I found a topic of interest that helps me reflect upon myself. Vintage Hawaiian pottery will be the focus of my concentration for this semester. Mastering this art can be achieved by means of historical research, observational studies, and first-hand experience.
This semester I wanted to focus on a topic that met my greatest qualities. Due to my fascination with surfing, the art of it, the balance of determination and thrill, it was easy to find the perfect focus along with the precise region. Hawaii is one of the world’s most well known hotspots for surfing. From here, I researched deeper until I discovered Vintage Hawaiian Pottery. Before I could begin my projects, I had to further educate myself on this topic. Let’s take a look at the history of it all.
Let’s begin with my historical research. Hawaiians are mostly known for their handmade leis, wooden tiki torches, and luau feasts. Although these customs are vital to the Hawaiian tradition, there is so much more to it than most people think. For instance, who would have thought that Hawaiians ever made pottery? With this question I focused my research onto the several different types of pottery in this region. Ranging from Volcanic Pottery to Bamboo Pottery, I settled with Vintage Hawaiian Pottery.
