Cell phone usage while driving

Mobile phone use while driving is common, but is very dangerous. Many regions have passed laws making this dangerous activity illegal. Texting is the most distracting activity and leads to many accidents each year. Driving is an activity that requires full attention and alertness, cell phone use, especially texting, while driving should be prevented and avoided by teens and adults alike. The invention of mobile phones has greatly increased the problem of distracted driving. Many people try to multitask while driving, but driving is not something that can be half done, someone might assume you are paying as much attention as they are and merge right in front of you or slow down to turn . If you are distracted this could easily lead to an accident. ‘So-called distracted driving crashes claimed 5,474 lives and led to 448,000 injuries across the country last year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA]. That's one in every six highway deaths.” Some say that they can pay attention to the road while they are texting but they don’t understand how much could happen in the few seconds that they are looking away. "If you're looking down at a cell phone for four seconds or a texting device for four seconds, you're driving the length of a football field without looking at the road." Distracted driving is very common today and can only be prevented by you deciding to pay attention. The use of a cell phone while driving to make a call or to text is distracting and increases your chances of getting in an accident. The reason texting is such a big deal is it splits your attention between the road and what your texting. "Texting is among the most dangerous activities for drivers because it involves taking your eyes and attention off the roadway." Even if you are not holding the phone you might be distracted thinking about what someone sent you and how you are going to reply instead of concentrating on merging lanes on a busy highway. Most of the time conversations that are had over text are of little importance and can wait until you are not driving. Texting and driving is easily preventable all you have to do is not do it. Many
