Stephen King V.S Edgar Allan Poe

Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe are both amazing authors who have their own unique voice. Both authors have their individual style when writing scary stories. These two authors have gone through different experiences that brought them to become who they are now. Today both, Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe, are well known. These two authors use setting, theme, and characterization to develop their own distinct tales of horror, however,
Stephen King is the true King of The American Horror Story.
The settings in "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "Suffer the Little Children" both play important roles in the story development.
The story, "The Tell-Tale Heart", takes place in a room where an old man with an eye of a vulture lives. He is constantly being watched over by a caretaker. His caretaker would often think about taking his life because he was so obsessed over his huge eye. Every night about midnight he turned the latch of his door and opened it. He proceeded into his room and noticed that his eye evil eye remained closed. Upon the 8th night he was more cautious than he usually was in opening the door but the old man heard and woke up. You might have thought he drew back but he didn't. His room was as black as pitch with the thick darkness, for the shutters were close fastened, through fear of robbers, and so he knew that the old man could not see the opening of the door, and he kept pushing it on steadily, steadily. The

caretaker startled as he came in and the old man saw. The poor old man's heart began to beat quickly and the caretaker began to get an anxiety attack. The heartbeat of the old man's heart drove the caretaker insane so he dragged the old man onto the floor and pulled the heavy bed over him. He waited as the heartbeat slowed down little by little until he heard nothing which was when he removed the bed off of him. The old man was finally dead.
The story, "Suffer the Little Children" takes place in a teacher's classroom. The teacher's name is Ms.Sidley. She was a small woman who had to stretch to write on the highest level of the blackboard. Behind her, none of the children giggled nor whispered or munched on secret sweets held in cupped hands. They knew Miss Sidley's deadly instincts too well. Miss Sidley could always tell who was chewing gum at the back of the room, who had a beanshooter in his pocket, who wanted to go to the bathroom to trade baseball cards rather than use the facilities. Like God, she seemed to know everything and at once. She only knew all these things because she would see the reflection behind her in her glasses from the corner of her eye. As she was writing the vocabulary words down on the chalkboard she chose random students to define the words out loud and to use them in a sentence. When she came up to the point in choosing a boy named Robert she kind of got a bad feeling as he used tomorrow in a sentence. The sentence he stated was, “Tomorrow a bad thing will happen”. She turned back around and continued to write down words onto the board but that didn't stop her from eyeing Robert. As she was looking at Roberts reflection from her glasses she noticed his facial features changing into something scary and ugly. She slowly turned around but everything was normal, she assured herself that it was just her mind playing tricks on her.
