Introduction
The research is focus on the evaluations of the static behavior and dynamic behavior of the metal foam by using the electro mechanical uniaxial compression machine (WDW-100E) and SHPB (split Hopkinson pressure bar) test.
Aim and Objectives
The aim of this project is to determine the dynamic characteristic of the metal foam using the SHPB testing.
Objects
Determine the elastic modulus, yield stress and densification strain of the metal foams using the static compression test and SHPB test.
Investigate the relationship between the Elastic modulus and porosity (relative density) of the metal foams (Gibson and Ashby formula) using static test and SHPB test.
Determine the energy absorption capacity of the metal foams and investigate the relationship between energy absorption capacity and the porosity using the static compression and SHPB test.
Determine the relationship between the stress and density of the aluminium foams.
Build up an experimental system to monitor the deformation of aluminium foam during the tests.
Methodology
The electro mechanical uniaxial compression machine (WDW-100E) has been used to find the thickness effect on material properties such as elastic modulus, plateau stress and energy absorption capacity of Aluminium foam. The Universal load cell (10kN) produces force over cross section of the aluminium foam. Displacement is recorded form the data acquisition system as the load is applied. The experiment is repeated for four different thicknesses of specimens and the stress verses strain curve has been plotted in order to find the find the material properties.
The SHPB test has been performed on four different specimens (Aluminium foam) with different thickness same as uniaxial compression test, in order to analysis the dynamic behaviour of the aluminium foam. The test has been performed in three different speeds
