Project Management
According to Jacobs & Chase (2011), project management generally involves planning, directing, and controlling resources such as: people, equipment, and materials to meet the technical cost and time constraints of the project (p. 74). As a result, project management is very important because management often involves juggling a portfolio of projects at the highest levels of an organization (Jacobs & Chase, 2011, p. 73 para. 2). However, senior management must incorporate one of the three organizational structures - pure project, functional project, or matrix project - to ensure that projects are effectively planned, directed, and resources (including people) are controlled throughout the entire process (Jacob & Chase, 22011, p. 74 – 75).
In this case, my work place would be considered as a pure project for the following reasons: 1) we are a self-contained team that works full-time on the project, 2) team members are only required to report to one boss, 3) team members are required to make quick decisions, 4) lines of communication have been shortened which have contributed to our teams extremely high level of pride, motivation, and commitment to completing our yearly projects successfully (Jacobs & Chase, 2011, p. 74, para. 5 & 6). However, if my workplace decided to incorporate a SOW we would have to start from the beginning (the foundation of the project), assign tasks, and effectively control/monitor everyone involved in the project. The best workers would have to be assigned to the tasks that would be considered as the most time consuming – to save time and money. Last but not least, communication is key since the boss would
