Fort Wellington was built during the War of 1812 to defend the St. Lawrence River shipping route in Montreal from possible attack by the United States. It was called into service again in 1838 when invasion from the United States was more dangerous and threatening then the last possible attack.The fort continued to be used for military purposes after that, until it was transferred to the Department of the Interior to be opened to the public as an historic site. It is important for Parks Canada to maintain Fort
Wellington as a place of value for all Canadians to be familiar with because it is important for other generations to see it and learn about it, it is also respecting previous generations hard work to built the fort and protecting the land. Maintaining the fort means the next generations could have the opportunity to learn about the history of Fort
Wellington.

The Battle of Fort George

Fort George was built along the Niagara River in 1802 to protect their interests in Upper
Canada. The Fort later on served as the headquarters for the Centre Division of the
British Army, during the War of 1812 in which Americans defeated a British force and captured Fort George in a artillery fire. The U.S. forces used the fort as a base to invade the rest of Upper Canada. Fort George is where the battle with the americans took place. It is important for Parks Canada to Maintain this site as a place of value for all
Canadians to be familiar with because is it important to preserve our history, we should focus on presenting our heritage assets to tourists, Reuse and revitalization of historic properties for visitor services protects important resources and helps to retain the community’s unique sense of place, maintaing this battle field also shows that we are proud of our history.
