The theme we see Cyrano portray would be pride, Cyrano had a lot of scenes through out the play and the movie that demonstrated his pride, like the bar scene in the movie. He accepts that he has a big nose and takes pride in it, he also makes jokes about himself to others. Some would say that he uses pride as an escape goat for his fear of being rejected or to cover up his insecurities. But none the less Cyrano felt like he had to be proud of the way he looked, as he said “ I would hate to have a nose of a weak man.” There were a lot of ways he used his pride, whether it was discised by wit or blatant he was never gonna let anybody but him talk about the way he looks. Some of the major plot events from the play and the movie that successfully transport Cyrano is at the beginning, when he orders mountflury off the stage. This scene shows not only his pride but bravado, He defends himself against the other caste members as well as montflury. As they make fun of his nose he shows an immense amount of bravado by holding his ground and not backing down, but his pride is shown when he fights while saying a poem. Even the towns people compliment him on his pride after the fight. The other event would be in the movie at the beginning were hes walking sown the street and singing out loud,and as he walks by two people the “compliment” him on his nose. Immediately he is ready to fight and has the confidence to be able to take them both on. His pride is shown in this scene by the way he carry’s himself, its as if his nose isn’t even there. In the movie he finds a sense of pride in a girl who tells him to be himself and to just go ask her out, this is were he found most of his pride and bravado from in the movie, however the one stage cyrano was natrually proud and confident in himself not only as a swords man but looks as well.
