Nowadays there are a lot of definitions of leadership, every single person see it in its own way. Nevertheless ideas are sometimes repetitive and have something in common. I found for myself the best explanation of leadership from Kouzes's and Posner's «The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadeship». I agree that these practices as modeling the way, inspiring shared vision, challenging the process, empowering others and encouraging the heart are essential and fundamental qualities for being successful leader. They also state that these qualities are available to all. It is true in some point, but only few people from the society can operate all of them together. The ability to have and develop all of five practices – is the way to be higher, to become a leader. Furthermore, the emotional intelligence takes an important place also in all of the practices. The starting points on the way of leading are modeling the way and being clear with the guiding principles. In other words to lead others leader have to understand his personal values. The next step comes with inspiring a shared vision. Kotter in his argument «What Leaders Really Do» states that planning and budgeting are manager's tasks while setting the direction is the role of the leader. To my poin of view leader see the future in its inspiring way that is why other people want to follow him. Providing people opportunities for the better, for the greater future, making common vision of the result – is the vital step. As the common vision occurs leader has to make the new step for this future – challenge the process. However, the whole team is engaged in this process, but the leader comes first to it. By catching the ideas and innovations leaders have the power to step forward. If there is no appearance of the new ideas, he whole process will be stable and fall down. As Kotter mentions the activity of the leadership is to align people. This appears in the fourth practice as enabling others to act.
