Contingency Theory of Leadership

Description of work environment
In my salon, there is a lot of discourse and arguing over space and clients. The stylists are bickering over stations, supplies and procedures.

In the table below, categorize different leadership approaches that could be used in the work environment you have described. Provide different suggestions for each of the four approaches to leadership.

Directive approach
Supportive approach
The directive approach tells the subordinates what is expected and how to perform the task. In this situation I could simply create a policy and procedure manual, introduce it and initiate consequences if my instructions are not followed.
In supportive leadership, the manager is not so interested in giving orders and managing every detail as in giving employees the tools they need to work themselves. I could have weekly meetings where I can allow the stylist to tell me how they feel about what is happening and allow them to come up with ideas on their own to manage themselves better.
Participative approach
Achievement-oriented approach
Participative leadership is a managerial style that invites input from employees on all company decisions. I could give the stylists a say so in how I implement the policies and procedures and take their suggestions on what should be done.
