This paper is to illustrate the changeover process of Part 2’s focus “the Design or the Architecture Phase” to the Implementation Stage. Considering a brief review of Part 2; in which clarifies the design or the architecture phase. Viewing the system requested by Hugh McCauley, COO of the Riordan Manufacturing, he is looking to incorporate the existing variety of their Human Resource tools in use today, into a single integrated application.
Subsequently, the progress of this project relies solely on the system analyst and the management team of the Riordan Manufacturing. In the same note, the analyst must have a firm connection with all involved parties from the beginning until the end of the project.
Implementation Stage
Learning from the study, the implementation is the final phase of the project. System implementation and operation is made up of seven major activities; 1) coding; 2) testing; 3) installation; 4) documentation; 5) training; 6) support; 7) maintenance. Each of these elements plays an important role to the development of the state. Thus, in order to have a successful journey, ultimately reach the expected destination is to follow the order as it displays. However, testing has somewhat already been intact during the design or architecture application. Each segment of the project must be tested to ensure that the process is ready to move on to the next one. Valacich (2012)
Viewing the proposed system for Riordan Manufacturing (Refer to week 3, part 2), it is extremely important for Hugh McCauley, CCO (project sponsor), and all involved personnel to get connected effectively with each other. In fact, the transition activity from the old system to the new one is less complicated when everyone communicates well and supports each other’s responsibilities.
Coding Activity
The study identifies coding application as time-consuming and a highly intensive activity. Coding is the process whereby the physical design specifications created by the design team are turned into working computer code by the programming team. Valacich, George, Hoffer, (2012). Apparently, I have zero hands-on experiences in coding, but learning from others in this study, gives me understanding of how difficult this process can be. According to the source, there are so many different things that one has to consider while conducting coding. As such, they have to expect other users’ disapproval and suggestions for changes. I can just imagine how frustrated that can be, especially with time and effort that have spent, should changes demanded by management.
Considering the proposed system for Riordan Manufacturing, the programmers have to focus in producing of the program module based on the new system as requested. As each program module is produced, it can be tested individually, then as part of a larger program, and then as part of a larger system. Valacich, George, Hoffer, (2012)
Although, coding is handled mainly by the programmers personnel, yet, Riordan CCO, (project sponsor) and the system analyst need to stay involve with the process to ensure that the development is moving to the right direction.
Testing Activity
The study points out that, once the coding activity has begun; then testing process can begin and proceed in congruence. Seemingly, testing is vital to the success of the system development as it gives the programming team, a proper update of what they are working on. Similar to other phases; testing requires a sketch to ensure that the proper questions such as a) what is the system for; b) who will use the system; and, c) how long they plan to keep the system; d) what kind of maintenance system to use in order for the system to maintain in good condition.
