Title: From Stones to Lasers

The brain is the largest organ in the nervous system. It controls body routines like breathing and memorizing. The history of brain surgery and its tools have changed overtime. First of all, Trepanning was one of the first brain surgery routines. Trepanning is when someone drills holes through the skull. To complete the process of Trepanning, stone tools were used. In the early days, brain surgery was used to fix mad people, crazy people, people who had headaches, epilepsy, and head injuries. In ancient brain surgery, the surgeon decided to remove the damaged part of the brain which mainly was the frontal lobe of the brain. The frontal lobe controls speech, mood, and the ability to think. Meanwhile, around 1935 another procedure was developed called a lobotomy. A lobotomy is an operation of cutting into the brain. A lobotomy is referred to as the first steadily used brain surgery procedure. The utensil used to do a lobotomy was a special knife. The main purpose of doing a lobotomy was to relieve people from bad behavior and depression when other methods failed to help them.
