Summary of the books of the New Testament Books Mark, John, Acts, James and Revelation Mark The book of Mark is in the Gospel Genre. The author was John Mark and was written between A.D. 55 and 65. Jesus, the 12 Disciples, Pilate, and the Jewish religious leaders were the key characters. This book did not show the birth of Jesus; it showed him as a man. The book begins by stating whom Jesus is, “Jesus the Messiah, the son of God.” This book of Mark tells John the Baptist and Jesus’ Baptism. The number of followers grew as Jesus kept performing miracles, showing his authority. Jesus speaks to known parables. John
The genre of this book is Gospel. It was the last of the four gospel genre books The author was John the apostle, son of Zebedee, brother of James. The key people were: Jesus, John the Baptist, the Disciples, Mary, Martha, Lazarus, Jesus’ mother, Pilate, Mary Magdalene. The purpose of this book is to show that Jesus is the Son of God, and that anyone that believes in him will have eternal life. Of the eight miracles recorded, six are unique to John, as is the "Upper Room Discourse". 90 percent plus of John was unique to his Gospel. John does not contain a genealigy or any record of Jesus buirth, childhood, tempation, transfiguration, appointment of the disciples, nor any account of Jesus parable, ascension, or great commission. After the Gospel, a description of Jesus’ miracles and his ministry followed. John describes Jesus’ last week, His prediction of His death, and what the Jews believed.

1Acts
The genre of this book is a Narrative focusing on History. The author was Luke (a Gentile physician) picked up from where the Gospels had left off. It is believed that Luke wrote the book during that time because he speaks of Paul coming into the city and then stops. The key people were: Peter, John, Paul, James, Stephen, Phillip, Paul, Barnabus, Cornelius, James (Jesus’ brother), Timothy, Lidia, Silas, Titus, Apollos, Agabus, Ananias, Felix, Festus, Agrippa, and Luke. The purpose of this book was to give an accurate account of the birth and growth of the Christian church. The Lord Jesus tells all His Apostles to spread the word, the gospel, by witnessing to others. The first half is about Peter and the beginning of the early churches. In the next portion, Paul and Barnabus go to witness in the Gentile Nation. Next, it tells of Paul’s travel through Macedonia and Jerusalem and their arrest.

James
The genre of this book is an Epistle. The author was James, Jesus’ brother, a leader in the Jerusalem church. It was written probably A.D. 49, prior to the Jerusalem council held in A.D. 50. There were not any key people in this book. This book is
