The book The Wallflower, is a 180? paged book about a girl named Sunako who is called ugly by the whom she ever confessed her love. That moment causes a change in her life as a result Sunako shuns all forms of beauty, both in her as well as in life. Concerned by her change for the worst, Sunako's aunt, the owner of a beautiful mansion where four very handsome students live, offers the guys free rent in her mansion if they can turn Sunako into a "perfect lady".
The setting of this story takes place somewhere in Japan but the exact city is not specified. All we know is that we are set in a mansion. There are also minor places that appear every so often like school. They also go to the market but occasionally somewhere different each time.
There are five protagonists in the book; Sunako, Kyohei, Takenaga, Ranmaru, and Yukinojo. Kyohei is the most popular and attractive among the four guys, but is also the most selfish and demanding. Because of his good looks, he has often been sexually harassed when at work and elsewhere. Takenaga is the most intelligent among the four. He is usually serious, but is revealed to be shy and thoughtful on more than one occasion. Ranmaru is a notorious playboy, always seen hanging around with older, often married, women. Yuki is a gentle and kind boy. He is easily frightened from everything, almost always in Sunako's room. Despite the fear he feels when around her, he cares about her as if he were her brother. So much so, that he defends her when she's called 'ugly'. While the four of them manage to make Sunako physically beautiful enough to become a lady, the problem lies with her attitude and interests, which Sunako has no intention of changing.
