There was a man in the land of Uz named Job, who feared God, and was upright in his ways. Job had seven sons and three daughters and much property. And it was the habit of Job to pray and offer sacrifices to God for the sins of his children.
Now one day the angels came before the LORD, and Satan (the devil) came also. And Satan told the LORD that Job feared God for nothing, because God had put protection around Job, but if that protection was taken away, Job would curse God. So God told Satan that he could do anything he wanted to all that Job had, but he wasn't allowed to do anything to Job.
And so in a single day, all Job's children, all his animals, and all his servants were killed. And when Job found out about it he tore his clothes, shaved his head, and fell down and worshipped the LORD and said "..the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away, blessed be the name of the LORD." In all the bad things that had happened, Job did not sin.
After that Satan came to the LORD and told the LORD that if Job were hurt in his body, he would curse God. So God allowed Satan to hurt Job, but he was not allowed to take his life. His wife told him to curse God and die, but Job told her she was foolish but Job still did not sin.
When Job's three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, heard what happened to him they came to comfort him and they stayed with him for a week, and no one said a word because they could see that Job was very sad.
Now at the end of that time, Job became very depressed and said that he was sorry for being born because the thing he feared most had come upon him. Then his three friends began to try and talk to him about why they thought all these things happened, And for a long time they talked back and forth between themselves, and finally they stopped talking to Job because he was righteous in his own eyes. Then a man named Elihu came to talk with Job, and spoke to Job about the wonderful works of God, and he told Job that "...the Almighty...does not respect
