Twenty-seven year old, Sara Blakely ponders on a cream colored pair of pants which hung in her closet. Uncomfortable on how she looked in her clothing, she thinks of ways to solve the issue. She puts her thought in action a cuts the feet from a pair of pantyhose. While finding ways to feel confident, she also found her billion dollar idea. 1 “I knew right away when I wore the prototype and I saw the difference it made in my wardrobe. I knew right away that this was going to be big. But the real blessing was twofold. Neiman Marcus said they would try it and put it in their stores right away. About four weeks later I got a call from the Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah had chosen Spanx as one of her favorite products in 2000.”2

A smooth idea created her smooth and more shaped look, leaving her with her product, Spanx. Her goal was to decrease the visibility of undergarment lines while wearing light colored jeans. “I think that there is a fine line between ignorance and confidence. I didn’t know how to run a business” she says.3 Saving 5,000 Sara was able to begin her Spanx business. As the product progressed, she became known while earning her multi million dollar shapeware company.4“Forbes magazine named her the worlds youngest self-made female billionaire.”5 Because of todays society, looking and feeling thin are important to most woman. Sara created this to help females get a skinny-like image, and remove unwanted lines displayed through articales of clothing. One would
