The airline industry has progressed over years and it has altered the way in which people live and conduct business by shortening travel time. The airline industry exists in an intensely competitive market. In the U.S. all major airlines have come to be privately held and JetBlue and AirTran are probably two of the most known in the industry. The first thing AirTran and Jet Blue did was come up with a competitive approach as low-fare, low-cost airlines leading them in the airline industry. With that main objective they were able to create the most successful airline companies. They also had the best safety records in the airline business. In the nationally recognized 2009 Airline Quality Rating AQR) (for the year 2008) ranked AirTran second in overall quality and JetBlue number 3. They both pride themselves in providing superior customer service. “In 2007, JetBlue introduced the JetBlue Airways Customer Bill of Rights, which provides compensation to customers who experience avoidable inconveniences (and some unavoidable circumstances)” (David, 2011). AirTran’s second important aspect is also service and is clearly stated in their mission, “Innovative people dedicated to delivering the best flying experience to smart travelers. Every Day” (David,2011). Additionally, their strong marketing also differentiates them. AirTran offers business class seating on all of their aircraft and it offers free digital XM Radio.
