As a unique writer, Harper Lee has made many important sayings in the book. It describes the situations that deal in the South during her childhood; especially the discrimination of color and lifestyle such as Tom Robinson, Boo Radley, and Bob Ewell. Other various quotes are mainly about judgment, freedom, courage, confidence, and dealing with childhood. For example, what’s interesting about the novel is that Atticus explains to the children what’s going on during a situation regardless how serious it is, rather then of a normal parent who tries to hide the problems from their kids. The quote, “When a child asks you something, answer him for goodness’ sake. But don’t make a production of it. Children are children, but they can spot an evasion quicker that adults, an evasion simply muddles ‘em” said by Atticus Finch explains that lying to children would cause problems rather than keeping their innocence. Another one of the memorable quotes made by Atticus is “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after the birds. Shoot them all you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird”. It extremely famous because it relates to the situation about the whites shaming and segregating the blacks: although most of them did not cause the whites much harm. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us.” It also says that it’s no good to be a bully to someone you do not know. Harper Lee makes much more quotes in the novel explaining about different situations and it’s the reason why her book is so popular, inspiring, and it is recommended for all ages of readers.

Political cartoons were very popular during the 1900s. With funny–looking drawings, political

cartoons represent a deeper meaning that talks about current situations. This picture shows an eagle

trying to take the crow’s place. The eagle represents the white people while the crows are the blacks. It

shows that even if the two birds can sit on the flag, the eagle is allowed to sit wherever it wants while

the crow is forced to sit on the remaining part of the pole. This is segregation; the white people can

have many opportunities and the better advantage while the black people are limited to what they can

have or do. It’s important to me because segregation takes place in “To Kill a Mockingbird and it has a

good representation on the Jim Crow Laws. The books has many references to this law such as the black

people are only allowed to sit above the court during the Tom Robinson trial, and Calpurinia is one of

the few black people that knows how to read.
