Correlation and Regression with SPSS Week 10 Application
This week’s application was designed to obtain the statistical results on the dataset used in previous weeks. For this assignment I chose to use the Bivariate Linear Regression model. I chose this model because according to, SPSS for Windows and Macintosh: Analyzing and Understanding Data “Linear regression can be used to analyze data from experimental or non-experimental design” (Bivariate Linear Regression, Chapter 33). For the data set used in this application I will be using a non-experimental study, which is more appropriate to use the fixed-effect assumption. With that, is essential to explore the bivariate scatterplot and the predictor of the variable prior to creating a regression analysis to conclude if a non-linear relationship occurs. The two variables that I chose to test a relationship is: What is the linear equation that predicts the extent of those who favor or oppose the death penalty for persons convicted of murder based on their gender? The null hypothesis is that there is a relationship between the sexes of the individual has a favor or oppose to the death penalty for persons convicted of murder. The predictor will be the sex of the person and the criterion will be the favor or opposed of murder. The null hypothesis was rejected.
