In the novel Daisy Miller the main character Winterbourne is introduced to her at the very beginning of the story. The first chapter as a matter of fact. Winterbourne begins to fall for Daisy more and more as the novel progresses. The introduction of Mr. Winterbourne to Daisy Miller in the first chapter is quite important and is also a major theme that sets the stage for the rest of the novel. In the first chapter of Daisy miller the main character Mr. Winterbourne come into contact with her. At first glance he notices her elegance and charm. He is fascinated by her. Daisy is an American girl that has just arrived to Geneva. As Winterbourne begins to speak to Daisy more and more he learns more about her. Where she is staying. Her family. Her activities and plans and much more. As the introduction to Daisy progresses the reader can begin to conclude that Winterbourne is beginning to care about Daisy and maybe even love her. As the novel progresses Winterbourne learns that Daisy would like to see the castles of Geneva. Winterbourne sees this as an opportunity to take Daisy on a date and caress her. Winterbourne is so focused on winning Daisy over that he is dramatically overlooking her flirtatious personality. Winterbourne is so excited to take Daisy to see the castles that when she is told she could do something much better she rejects winterbournes offer and wishes ill will to home. Claiming that she hopes he is "mad or something, maybe even upset." Now that Winterbourne has gotten a taste of Daisy's personality he still has yet to understand her. Daisy informs Winterbourne she will be leaving to Rome soon and that she would love for Winterbourne to come visit her as soon as he possibly could. Winterbourne accepts and tells her that he shall come visit her in Rome when he goes to visit his aunt. Winterbourne never would have accepted to see Daisy if he wouldn't have met her so early into the novel. The major theme beginning to occur is the novel is love. Winterbourne thinks he is starting to fall in love with Daisy, but also at the same time is quite puzzled by her flirtatious personality. Winterbourne does not understand that Daisy is an American woman and her culture differs greatly than that of the European culture.
