Bill of Rights

This essay will focus on what the 1st amendment and how it guarantees freedom to American citizens, and what is most relevant to me. The second section will discuss the significance of the Bill Of Rights and how it works with the U S Democracy for example during election time. The last section will look the process for amending the Constitution and if it is a “fair”. In each section will give an example of why they are important and how it works in the United States with the citizens who lives in America.

When looking in to the First Amendment is made to protect people of America with the rights of freedom and practicing any religion that they want. The first amendments is a part of the Bill of Rights it states “The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and to petition their government.” (www.law.cornell.edu) this is very important to many citizens of American this guarantees that the people who resides in America are treated fairly when they speak their own mind on things they truly believe in. The first Amendments also includes an Establishment Clause that says the government cannot make the people of American be forced in believing in one and only religion. This helps when there is some many types of religions within the United States that people can choose from what they feel comfortable with. I have a lot of faith in the 1st amendment because it allows me as a citizens to have a chance to voice my on topics that matter to me. As long as I display my expression in a peaceful matter the 1st Amendment will protect me and others who wish to state their opinion.
The Bills Of Rights is the 1st ten amendments which became a part of the Constitution in 1791. These Rights was establish and are very important, in a letter stated by Thomas Jefferson that was written for James Madison “ "A bill of rights is what the people are entitled to against every government on earth," (www.encyclopedia.com) . At this time Jefferson felt that the people should be aware of the laws that the government has listed for them. The Bill of Rights is a simple outline of the people rights, and not the rights of the government it also give a minimal amount of power to the government. In general sense he felt that the people would be protected from the government if they felt neglected at least they had rules that they could depend on. The Bill of Rights is very powerful it sets rules for people who need to voice the opinion, or who has committed a crime. For example the 5th amendment protection against, trial without indictment, double jeopardy, self-incrimination, property seizure, (www.billofrightsinstitute.org) the person who is going through trail can use these one to protect themselves. In general speaking the Bills of Rights is applied to all levels of government while being a strong part of the Constitution its helps people beware of what laws are in place to protect all Americans.
