In watching and reading the transcript of Bill Gates discussing malaria and education was very interesting. When I first read the title I thought what do the two subjects have to do with each other? Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, have dedicated their time and money to helping this world become a better place. I definitely admire their efforts for not keeping their entire fortune to themselves.

Mr. Gates first topic regarding malaria provided a lot of information around current life expectancy over the years and how vaccines have become more widely available. This was a great introduction to the topic of malaria and its’ origination and the death toll reaching over 5 million in the 1930’s. At that time the disease was wide spread which sparked research for a cure. Now, malaria is considered to only be in poorer countries, which do not get funding or attention. This is a shame because a life is a life! It does not matter where you live, color of skin, how fat your pocketbook is or if you are male or female; life is a gift and should be treated as such. Mr. Gates example regarding the amount of money spent on cures and medication for balding was a perfect example of how money and vanity do play into these types of decisions on where and how money should be spent.

Mr. Gates topic on education was also interesting, but yet something we all know quite a bit about and never seem to make great strides. Education is important and it is even more important to
