This week’s torah portion focuses on leprosy and being disconnected from the community.
Paragraph 2
Being isolated is the worst thing that can happen to a person. We know this because it says in Pirke Avot “Don’t separate yourself from the community.” As important as it is for the person with a disease to reach out to the community it is just important for the community to reach out to the sickly person. A very important mitzvah is the mitzvah of visiting the sick. In biblical & modern times if the disease is not able to spread to the community, the community should visit the sick person at least 3 or 4 days a week to just talk or play a game. If the disease is catchy, the community can wear protective gear apon visiting the sick person. Being that the community will reach out to the sick person the sick person must be able to let them in and accept the help that the community is offering.

Secondly, if a sick person comes down with a disease it is important that these people reach out to the community and not wait for the community to reach out to him or her. In the biblical times this could be done by a couple of ways: One is the person could wear something to protect the person’s disease from spreading and therefor making other people unable to catch the disease. The second option would be to have the sickly person talk to people by writing a message on a rock and then throwing
