Bede

In his time period Bede was considered the father or English history for his studies on early Christian leaders. He was a student of great discipline, showing interests in early biblical commentaries. Throughout this sermon Bede focuses on the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. Not only does he focus on the birth, but more specifically the Virgin Mary. Bede wants the reader to acknowledge how special the birth of Jesus was considering Mary was virgin and remained a virgin even after giving birth. Before Mary gave birth she was promised to Joseph who was the son of David. One day Mary was visited by an angel named Gabriel ho bares a message from God. The message was that Mary was to conceive a son who will save everyone from there sins. Mary had some questions herself for Gabriel, she wanted to know how she was to conceive a son when she had no husband? Mary was since impregnated by the holy sprit. Joseph who was awaiting marriage to Mary was irate when he first found out about Mary’s pregnancy, but later the angel Gabriel who told him that Mary was to bear a son and that he was to name the boy Jesus. Jesus in Hebrew bears the meaning of “saving” or in Latin means “savior.” The main points Bede is trying to get across is that the birth of Jesus is anything but a normal birth. God picked Mary because she was pure, and only those that are pure can carry out such a task. Another main point I believe Bede is trying to get the reader to focus in on is the role that Joseph played during this. It was not until the angel came to Joseph that he then accepted that Mary was the chosen from god to deliver the savior. In the beginning Joseph had no intentions of still marrying Mary it was not until the angel explained to him that Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit was he ok with it. In the beginning Bede mention Mathew and Luke, when they are mentioned
