Battle of Thermopylae and Sparta Leonidas Essay

A couple weeks ago I had a chance to watch the movie “300” by Zack Snyder. The story is based on the events of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. where the king of Sparta Leonidas with the army of three hundred Spartanians resisted against Persian King Xerxes with the army of over a million soldiers. To analyze this movie I want to use Aristotle’s six elements.

The main character (protagonist) of the movie is great king of Sparta Leonidas. At the beginning of the movie the director describes the young years of the future great king: his strict punishments, his combat training, in brief his becoming the great soldier. Later, the action of the film mostly is taking place on the battlefield, in the narrow mountain passage where Leonidas bravely and efficiently defend his country against the great army of Persians aggressors. According Aristotle’s principals, there is the conflict between protagonist and antagonist can be seen in the movie. As I have said

the protagonist is the king himself; the antagonist is the enemy of Leonidas, the conqueror is king of Persians Xerxes.

The presentation is changing through the movie. At the beginning the direct presentation is taking place; the story is being told by one of these 300 soldiers. Then the viewer can see Leonidas in action and assumes about king’s personality according to his acts and behavior. This indicates to the indirect presentation.
