Baseball America’s National past time. Baseball was created around 1845 by a man named Alexander Cartwright. He devised the first modern rules and regulations that were accepted for the modern game of baseball. Of course there were similar games played earlier like rounder’s. Which is an old English game similar to baseball but it was never very popular, and never was a very serious game. In 1871 the first professional baseball league, the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players, was established, which was made up of 25 teams. That league ended in 1875 because of Dominance by a single team (Boston) for most of the league's existence. Instability of franchises; several were placed in cities too small to financially support professional baseball, and lack of central authority Suspicions of the influence of gamblers. In 1876 the first Major League was formed, The National League which is what we know today as the MLB.

Arguably the most famous and greatest baseball player was Babe Ruth, and according to my audience analysis questions most people said that they knew who he was. He is third all time on the homerun list with 714. Barry Bonds (762) and Hank Aaron (755) are ahead of him.
