What a lot of kids and parents may not realize is that Barbie influences girls that they have to be a certain way for someone to like you. Barbie is very interesting, she has 3 sisters and the very first Barbie ever made was in 1959. After Barbie had her first sister people were expecting more so they started asking if Barbie was going to move on with her life. They added a man (Ken) and 2 more sisters than friends and more.

Barbie has changed her look to conform to the times, yet her figure has remained the same causing many to criticize the popular doll. Barbie was introduced to the public in 1959 in New York City. The doll’s creator and Mattel co-founder, Ruth Handler, “…watched her younger daughter Barbara playing with paper dolls, imagining them in grownup roles” (“Barbie Through the Years” Wikipedia). Realizing that it is important for young girls to imagine what it would be like to be grown up, she came up with the dolls original look and named it after her daughter. In Barbie’s first year of sales Mattel rang in $1,053,000, which was the highest selling item
