The last few weeks have been all about us as graduates, our personal plans, our own individual goals, our future careers and what ones might pay us a lot of money. I’ve been all wrapped up in that myself but I think the point of tonight is to re-focus all of us away from that line of thinking.
James 4:13-15- “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

I think this Scripture is saying that it is OK for me to have goals, but if I leave God out of my goals I will always be disappointed in my life and more importantly God will always be disappointed in me. Also I think it is saying that there is no point in me making plans as though God doesn’t exist, because He does exist and my future is ultimately in His hands and not my own.
As I am preparing for graduation and to enter the real world there are countless questions that are whirling in my mind at the moment. Questions like, “What job will I have?”, “Where will I be living”, “Will I have a husband and children?” We wonder “What would I like to be doing in ten years? One year from now? Or even tomorrow?” But how will I react if God steps in and rearranges my plans? I will continue to plan ahead, but
