Aviemore is the most beautiful town in the Cairngorms. Situated in the heart of the glorious national park, it is a haven for outdoor lovers, with many activities as little as five minutes away. There are many activities available throughout the year. These range from snow sports to kayaking to will walking, quad biking and much more.
Mountain Activities:
There are many activities readily available on the Cairngorm Mountain itself. Why not travel up the Cairngorm mountain funicular railway? Of course there is the opportunity to go skiing or snowboarding as well on the mountain during the winter months. So come and try it out for yourself, and enjoy the stunning views whilst kicking up the piste. Then afterwards pop in to the Ptarmigan, the highest restaurant in Scotland for a comforting hot chocolate and hot food before heading back down. Also be sure to visit the gift shop, it has a large range of gifts, clothing, essentials and equipment. Are you a Munro Bagger? Or want to start walking the glorious mountains? Well what better way to start than walking the sixth highest mountain in the Scotland? It is easily manageable and well routed, for even Beginner walkers, or if you are feeling adventurous you could walk the Northern Corries and finish at the bottom of Cairngorm. There are also guided walks for those who don’t want to push themselves to do something they are not experienced enough for yet.
Water sports:
There are many ways to take part in water sports at two of the lochs near Aviemore, Loch Insh and Loch Morlich. Loch Insh, within a twenty mile radius of Aviemore, offers many different activities. These can range from a peaceful paddle in a kayak whilst enjoying the spectacular views of the mountains, to summer camps for kids. There is the option to hire equipment at both centres at competitive prices. Loch Insh also has a bar café, so the good times don’t have to end once you’re out of the water. Also you can enjoy a spot of archery, mountain biking, try out the dry ski slope, or even have a go a raft building. There are plenty of activities to choose from, making it the perfect place for a family holiday or even just a day out. Loch Insh also provides accommodation for those looking to get started as early as possible. They offer chalets, apartments and rooms in the main lodge. The main lodge has a total of twenty-four snug en-suit and non en-suit rooms. There is also lounge, TV room, washing and drying room, mini gym and sauna.
Rothiemurchus Estate:
Around five minutes from Aviemore is the Rothiemurchus Estate. Here you will find many fantastic woodland walks, that when walked in the snow is like a fairytale come to life. Also in the estate there are a couple of shops, and a small café. Here you can take a break and enjoy the sheer beauty of the area whilst you rest. Activities on the land in the estate include quad bike treks and clay pigeon shooting. Also there are pony treks available and safaris by Land Rover.
