Atlantis outline I. Our knowledge of ancient civilizations is based on the object they left behind weather it’s in ruins or in writing. Although one greatly mentioned civilization on an island in the middle of the Atlantic hasn’t been found people are left to wonder is the great city of Atlantis fact or myth? a. Out of all the lost and hidden cities out in the world that question how humanity really began and what happened over more than hundreds of years ago, why is Atlantis the most mentioned? It appears in movies, books, and news up till today still entertaining the peoples curiosity on what it is that really happened? b. Atlantis has been talked about, studied, been searched for extensively over centuries, and even after everything that has been found to this day and all the theories that have been created , there is still doubt in many people’s minds. i guess until the entire island rises from the oceans floor and reveals its mysteries the world will just believe what they want to believe. c. So did this lost city really exist? And what did it really inhabit? Some people consider it a fictional story others believe Atlantis has shaped the world we are living in today. II. 1. The origins of Atlantis aren’t exactly based on true facts but scriptures. They may not be the proven truth, yet still very interesting. a. The first time the more modern world heard about Atlantis was back in 335 b.c.it was found in one of Plato’s books called “timaeus and critias.” b. The book came from a trilogy Plato was planning but he never finished. c. In the book it says that his former teacher solon had heard the story of the atlanteans from an Egyptian priest who said none of the most civilized nations compared to Atlantis and also spoke of its connection to ancient Athens. d. It was also mentioned that when it came time to divide the land on earth between the gods Poseidon got Atlantis. Here he found a beautiful woman he conquered and bore 10 sons with. He turned them all into kings over 10 regions of Atlantis. The island and surrounding ocean was named after the first son Atlas. 2. This civilization was said to have been beautifully advanced there is much details to what Atlantis really was some different than others but they all come down to the same conclusion. a. For many centuries Atlantis was also known as the” center of the world”. This is because it thrived in trade with busy ports and markets full of colorful produce.

b. This continent stood larger than 2 times Asia minor it had incredibly advanced architecture and engineering. The buildings were made of red, black, and white marble that grew in the island. c. The island had a hill in the middle which held the temple were Poseidon’s statue stood showing him driving 6 winged horses beside the statue was a column with the gods laws written on it , right by the laws were the curses and punishments that would be awarded if you broke the rules. d. The hill was surrounded by rings of water about a kilometer wide with flowing cold and hot water. It was said that Poseidon made these to keep his wife Cleito on the hill so she wouldn’t be able to meet other men. Poseidon was very distrustful and jealous. e. Atlantis was very powerful it was said that it once even owned islands from the Pillars of Hercules all the way to Egypt. Libya and Tyrrhenia were under its control to. f. The atlanteans themselves were said to be tall, fair skinned, and lived up to 800 years. This lead people today to consider them to have been aliens. g. The people had great military skills which included a strong navy and war chariots as well as small maneuverable shields. h. Even though they were so great and powerful they had great respect for their god and for each other. Instead of focusing on wealth, property, and power they cared about life’s true values like friendship and wisdom. i. Their customs included many festivals were they sang and did bull runs as well as big
