Response paper for Ambassador Brownfield
William R. Brownfield is the Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs; Ambassador Brownfield was sworn in on January 10, 2011. Ambassador Brownfield is responsible for State Department programs and their fight against drugs and organized crime. In his visit, he also made it very clear that he supports strongly law enforcement and rule of law.
While Ambassador Brownfield was visiting and speaking to our class I picked up on a few things, and the first was how well of a speaker her was. He was able to grab the entire class’s attention with his enthusiasm. Ambassador Brownfield explained some of his own history as he served as U.S. Ambassador to the following countries: Chile from 2002-2004, Venezuela from 2004-2007, and Colombia from 2007-2010. Also, he told of his service overseas in El Salvador, Argentina, Switzerland, and Panama as temporary Political Adviser to the U.S. Southern Command. I was extremely impressed with all of his past service. In Washington, Ambassador Brownfield told us of how he was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, Director for Policy and Coordination in INL, Executive Assistant to the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs, Member of the Secretary’s Policy Planning Staff, and Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs.
