In this booklet I am going to explain the factors and barriers to communication that we may face in everyday life, I’m also going to explain how we can overcome the factors that I will be explaining within this booklet from this I am then going to explain how the strategies are good and if they will be effective within the communication that is going on, from this is am going to explain how I can change the barriers and factors and replace them with a positive outcome within communication and then finally I am going to conclude if the strategies I have put into place have worked and how they have worked within communication.
When it comes down to communication there are many barriers and factors that can effect communication or the way we communicate with one another, the barriers that affect communication in some way are;
Behaviour/emotions/aggressive
Décor
Language
Poor lighting
Space
Hearing impairment/speech/sight
Heating
Having a disability
Noise

Everything that I have listed from the list above will all affect communication in one way or another, this is because all of the above will form some kind of barrier when it comes down to communicating. Therefore when being in a situation where a barrier has been formed through communication, it is important to know and understand how you can put something in place to help the individual and you when it comes down to communicating.

Behaviour is a barrier to communication, this is because if someone is agitated or aggressive, therefore from this they may not want to talk or will find it hard to engage contact with you, which can then be hard for you, this is because you may not know how to deal with the situation that you have now been put in as an individual, therefore from this, it is important that something is put into place to help you and the individual when it comes down to communicating.

Décor can be a barrier to communication, this is because if you’re trying to talk or teach an individual with a learning disability because if there is too much or too little personal space this can be uncomfortable for the individual and can cause them distress when having to communicate or when having some expression, therefore this can also be hard for you, as for the same reason, you have now been put in a difficult situation, therefore from this, it is important that something is put into place to help you and the individual when it comes down to communicating.

Cultural differences (Language) this is a barrier because if you’re communicating or trying to communicate with an individual who speaks a different language or speaks very little English, this will be hard for both you and the individual to communicate, therefore from this a barrier has then been put into place for both you and the individual, from this it can cause distress or annoyance for the individual who is trying to communicate to you. Also it is important that you know the needs of the individual and respect that the individual may need to pray, therefore both you and the individual have been put in a difficult situation, therefore from this, it is important that something is put into place to help you and the individual, when it comes down to communicating.

Poor lighting can be a barrier to communication, this is because if you’re talking or teaching and individual with a learning disability they may become distracted by the light or the light may be too light or too dark for them which can then make the individual become agitated and distracted from you, therefore this put you in a difficult situation, therefore from this, it is important that something is put into place to help you and the individual when it comes down to communicating

Space can be a barrier to communication, this is because if the chairs or tables are too close together, this may mean that the individuals are too close to each other, which then means that their personal space has been invaded and the same for if the tables and chairs
