1.1 Review own role and responsibilities, and boundaries of own role as a teacher.
There are many roles and responsibilities a teacher must have in order to do their job well and see their students achieve success. I would say the most important aspects of this process is the supporting the learners element, both in group work sessions as well as one to one when learners need guidance.
I need to ensure I support them as much as possible so that they are able to complete assignments as well as any tasks that have been set for them to complete. It is also my responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the learners, in addition to providing them with additional resources and guidance as and when required.
I also have to take part in admin tasks, such as organising the curriculum, creating schemes of work and lesson plans as and when required.

1.2 Summarise key aspects of relevant current legislative requirements and codes of practice within a specific context.
Legislation is an important aspect in the work place, and especially in education, it is designed to protect people’s rights and work towards a system that is fair for everyone. There are a number of relevant rules and regulations that must be followed within a good educational workplace.
I would say the most important of these is the Equality Act 2010. This protects people from being discriminated against because of their race, religion, gender etc.
In addition to this the Health and Safety Act, which is designed to protect people in the workplace from having accidents and follows important guidelines such as safe guarding, which is particularly to protect young people from harm.

1.3 Review points of referral available to meet the potential needs of learners
Points of referral are important for learners to be able to receive guidance and support in all kinds of situations. There are two types of referral available, both internal and external types of support.
Internal types of support are within a college, university or educational institution. There area number of different internal departments within the institution that can support the learner.
This can include for example the student support department, which offers learners with additional support needs the additional help that they need.
Another important department would be student finance which offers learners guidance on how to deal with financial matters and will offer them support and guidance on their ability to apply for course fees, bursaries, loans etc.
Another example would be the IT department which can offer technical support to both learners and staff alike when it comes to them being able to use computer technology within the premises. This department would also be in charge assisting with any technical issues on the premises.

Equality and diversity are very important issues within the educational workplace, they insure that learners and staff alike are treated equally and fairly regardless of their cultural and social background. Equality as a term is very much associated with fairness and a wide range of people having the opportunity to learn, regardless of what barriers that they may face.
