The 1960’s was a time of riots, wars and hopelessness between ships at this crucial period. Race relation was an area with great potential for violence, although many black leaders stressed nonviolence. During this time there were many leaders and others who were against what was going on white and colored. Race relations played a huge part in the uprising of America. During the Civil Right Movement, Gale and Brian managed to grow together
Many different events happened during the film that showed race relations. One event from the film which showed race relation was when Coach Halas decided to room the players by position. By Coach Halas doing this, this meant that a few players would be roomed interracially. When Coach Halas decided to do this he asked Gale if he would be okay with rooming with Brian, a white man. Many afflictions came to Gale about rooming with a white man but, slander hit the most and he was ready for it.
Another event from the film was when Brian and Gale went out to celebrate. They both celebrated with their own company. Brian’s friends and wife were shocked that he went along with rooming with black man. They were joking about how shocked they were that he had never knew a black person personally so this would be new for both them and him. As Gale and his wife talked about him rooming with a white man she was not really happy. Even though it did not bother Gale a lot it bothered her. The next event in the film that demonstrated race relations was when Brian was reading the letter from his mother. It read “you must’ve been raised with pigs to stay in the same room with ones of those darkies”. This shows how whites acted towards blacks. Even though Brian picked it out to be a joke it was still
