With the ever-increasing population, it seems that access to food could develop into quite a challenge. The field of agricultural technology, otherwise known as genetic modification (GM) technology is seeking to ensure sustainable agriculture production in developing countries as well as to fight against the hunger and poverty crises. The first commercial production of GM crops started in 1996. Prior to this only China and USA were known to produce GM crops. Since it’s beginning, steady developments in GM technology have occurring in developing countries as well as in developed countries. Advancements in the field have greatly increased, but debates are still being tackled all over the globe. The field facing scrutiny over whether the GM crops are safe due to potential long-term effects on human health and environments. Contrary to this debate, there have been benefits that have been documented that have shown related to health and environments. The article analyzes a wide range of relevant papers that focus on current issues of GM crops in developing countries and latest information that were obtained from the first year of commercialization till date.
