Army of the Afterlife and Last moments in Fuchun Mountain Every art has a fascinating meaning and history behind it. The Terracotta army symbolizes the afterlife and the victory of the warring states while the Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountain was one of the greatest art pieces from Huang Gongwang. Huang Gongwang spent his final moments in the Fuchun Mountain where he painted his last piece of art. These two magnificent art pieces have a significant part in the Chinese history even till this day. These terracotta statues were created in the Qin Dynasty 210 BCE, for the ruthless ruler who united China into an Empire. It was created in memory of the army that claimed victory over the other warring states. For Over 2,000 years these Terracotta soldiers have guarded the tomb of The First Emperor Shi Huang Di(Stokstad 325). It was believed that these statues can be animated in the afterlife and was said to be considered Qin Shi Huang Di afterlife army(National Geographic). These Clay figures were discovered in 1974 outside the city of Xi’an, China in a trench-like underground corridors, which is now considered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world. The warrior pit alone covers a total of 25,000 feet square(Portal). Few years later, in 1976, two more locations were discovered about 20 to 25 meters away. The locations were called Vault One, Two and Three(China Highlights). Each life-size warriors had incredible and unique details. They were placed in a grand ancient army formation consisting of horsemen, longbow bearers, archer, senior officers and generals. Also, each of the life size warrior had their own distinct facial features and expressions. There were no two soldiers that looked alike nor had the same clothing or gestures. It has taken Emperor Quin Shi Huang Di 38 years and about 720 thousand builders to complete the Terra-cotta Army, even then it has been said to have not been completed. Although today these life size solders are largely gray, there has been patches of paint hinting once being brightly painted. Only about 1,868 Terracotta warriors have been uncovered but have been said there are much more undiscovered. Archaeologist believes the pit may contain as many as 8,000 figures, but it is unknown and maybe never be known. Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains is considered to be the greatest and one of the few surviving art piece by Lu Jian, Also known as Huang Gongwang who was consider to be one of the Four Yuan Masters. This piece of art was created in the Qing dynasty and was said to be completed in 1350 when Huang Gongwang was 82 years old(Landscape Reunited). It reflects the calligraphic techniques into painting and the spirit of literati art with emphasis on expressing ideas and freehand brushwork to create a new realm of monochrome ink painting(Landscape Reunited). In 1650 this painting was supposed to be burned down as a request on Wu on his deathbed but was saved by a family member. Though this painting was saved it has suffered mediocre damage and was separated into two pieces. After the separation into two sections, it has never been displayed together until 2011 when the painting was loaned to the National Palace Museum in Taipei and the two pieces were reunited for the first time in centuries.
