Modern Chinese Architecture
Ancient Chinese architecture was built because the emperors had strict rules for design because of the religious beliefs. At first buildings were made low to the ground and held up by columns rather than walls. The designs were very symmetrical and straight. It seems like there was the religious ideas from Buddha that says balance is important. But the old traditional building types are going away and new modern fancy building are going up.

National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing is very pretty and very modern design. The outside is oval shape with 46.68 meters high and it is the only building shaped round so far in Asia. The outside surface of the theater is a titanium glass dome that is completely surrounded by a man-made lake. In the daytime it looks see through and at night time it lights up very colorfully. The building was made with 18398 pieces of titanium plates and 1226 pieces of super white glass. People say it looks like an egg floating on water from the air.
