Many young people see going to school as a chore and only go because they absolutely have to. Some will even skip school because they see it as boring and unnecessary. In the essays “Kenyon Commencement Speech “by David Foster Wallace and “Are Too Many People Going to College? “by Charles Murray they express two very different opinions about college . David Foster Wallace expresses how everyone needs school high education up to college to succeed. On the other hand Charles Murray believes that too many people are going to college. When they do not really need it to be successful. I feel that education is something that everyone needs to a certain point in their life to succeed. People only need up to high school education not everyone needs to attend college to but successful. High school prepare people with skills needed to live life. Depending on what students would like to do with their career would really depended if college is needed. If there is a person who would like to be a singer and accomplish a music career it would be pointless to attend college. A singer would already have the basic knowledge they need such as reading, writing. When you walk into a record company trying to get a record deal they are not going to ask he/she if you have a college diploma. Therefore going to college at that point would be a waste of time and money. For a career you would need things such as music classes, vocal lesson, etc. . . . In other hand in the article “Are too Much People Going to College? “ Murray Has a good point saying , It says if there was a women who wants to become a lawyer and eventually would like to run for political office, she would absolutely should spend her undergraduate years getting rigorous liberal education . “It would be appropriate to push her to that kind of undergraduate program. “-Murray. . Going to college does not guarantee a good job with good pay. A lot of people are coming out of college with huge student debt yet have no marketable skills to do anything. All they have is their degree. Murray argues that “college looms so large in thinking of both parents and students because it is seen as the open sesame to a good job.” When high school graduates get out of high school they feel as if they need to go to college and get their degree it will get them a higher paying job. This is true only sometimes. This only happens for people that pursue careers as lawyers, physicians, engineers. Because of the knowledge and skills needed take years to acquire. In some cases people with degrees, skills are more likely to make more money than the person without a degree, however getting a college degree is still going to be the wrong decision for most high school graduates. College is not all that people make it to be. Most people attend college because they feel that it is the right thing to do.
