As a result of the economic downfall American is currently going through, a lot of spending has been cut. Various aspects of not only federal, but local spending have been cut. A major component that makes out world thrive and exist is the school systems including public and private schools. School systems now have limited resources and no longer can operate up to par because they no longer can afford to do so. Students who attend a public or private school rather than attend home schooling, develop and learn at a disadvantage. With the education systems unable to operate the way they could be able to do with more funding, the students who attend these schools, are deprived of the programs, services, and classes they should have available to them. Without these classes and services available to them, they are less likely to develop at a normal rate. While at home school, they can learn at their own pace and have endless resources available to them. Also, home school students have their own ways of learning and decide which services and supplies are needed for any given subject. Another downfall to students who attend a public or private institution is that the school they attend may teach information to students that may go against their families morals or values. Some school districts make some of their classes mandatory such as music, art, or dance. Families of some religions could be against this. Also there are private schools that require a religion class to all students regardless of what religion they are. One can see how this could potentially turn into a problem. Imagine this; you’re sitting in a lecture class which is usually a history class of some sort. There are about one hundred people who attend this class along with you. The lecture is boring and you’re not too interested in what your teacher is talking about anymore. Soon you find other things to occupy your mind and make time pass. You may start to doodle where you should be taking notes for the upcoming test. Or you may start talking to your friends who happen to be sitting near you. However, in a home schooling environment, you can work without those distractions because you are alone or only with one other person while learning. Students can make learning fun for themselves while learning at home. One factor that I know I have struggled with is the way the teacher presents the information. Everyone learns their own way and at their own speed. It is difficult for a teacher who leads a class of twenty-five people to be sympathetic to each student’s individual needs each day. Parents may contest that their son or daughter is not learning the material he or she should at the pace they should. This learning disability is due to the teaching style and how the teacher coordinates the lesson that day. Home schooling, on the other hand, allows the parents to coordinate their child’s or children’s curriculum that best fits their style of learning while still satisfying the requirements given out by the state. As was said before in a public or private school, learning can be made very difficult due to all of the distractions by all the other students attending the school with them. While at home schooling, it is shown that those students are the ones who tend to excel on achievement test given by the state. As an argument against home schooling, one may argue that parents are unfit to teach their child or children everything they need to be taught as they are not credited teachers. Although, home schooling is a very good choice for some students who lack the ability to learn as fast as the teacher presents the material. The students of home schooling are able to faster in the subjects they find easier to learn and move as slow as they want in the subjects they find more difficult to learn.
