Apple has succeeded in capturing additional market in the U.S by introducing the 5C, which was affordable to consumers opposed to the 5S. Apple will be able to keep its dominant position if it expands across the globe. The two main markets that needs to be Apple’s focus is India and China. In order to dominate these markets, Apple needs to introduce more affordable products. India and China are the two most rapidly growing middle class, which together they make up about $1 billion people. Apple’s dominance will grow if it is able to provide their products to people with different economic levels.
China’s market is mostly dominated by Samsung and other Chinese brands. Apple’s market share rose to 7% last year from 6% in the third quarter, because of strong demand for the iPhone 5S. Still it was clear that China’s market consisted of mainly Androids models because they are much cheaper than the iPhone. Apple made a good start by entering into an agreement with China Mobile to work together to sell the iPhone to more than 760 million users of China Mobile network.
Apple has also had a hard time in selling their iPhone in India. Apple has not tried entering India’s market; instead they have chosen distributors who sell their products at a high price. Many of the people selling Apple’s iPhones in India do not know all of its cool features, this is another reason the iPhone does not attracts many customers in India. Currently India sells the iPhone 5S, 16GB for almost $870 while the 5C sells for $680, which are extremely high.
