Antibiotic resistance is the ability of a microorganism to withstand the effects of an antibiotic. This is a very common thing because for so long people have relied taking antibiotics for everything little thing, that they don’t realize they’ve built a resistance against it. The very same drug that people are counting on to make them better is the very same drug that can make them sick if overused over time. People usually are unaware that they have built up a resistance until there is an extreme situation when antibiotics are needed and their bodies don’t accept it. Doctors or people working in the healthcare field can help to stop the spread of antibiotic-resistant infections. One way is by not antibiotic for a viral infection like a cold or the flu. Even though antibiotics are useful drugs, they are designed for bacterial infections and aren’t very useful for viral infections.
There are ways to slow down the spread of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. One way is by not asking your healthcare professional (i.e. doctors) for antibiotics is you just have a cold. Another way is by not recycling or restoring your leftover antibiotics for the next time you get sick. You should always take all of your antibiotics as prescribed and discard any leftovers.
