Anorexia nervosa has been generally defined as a person who creates a disallowance for their self to eat and maintaining a healthy body weight. The eating disorder is not characterized by a lack of hunger rather than having hunger yet choosing starvation at a cost of many psychological factors. There are thousands of reasons why a person may choose to begin starve themselves, but the most astounding part of this disorder is not only the physical but also psychological effects that occur because of it. When looking at the poorer countries in the population and their poverty status it is very evident that poor nutrition has led to numerous health issues, therefore making it clear that when bringing upon poor nutrition to a person they too will suffer. When looking at a face of somebody who is malnourished, they often look old, and have begs under their eyes, as if they are discolored and put in a time machine. This is because aging has been correlated with a lack of nutrition and food. The body psychically aging is only one of the many factors that will contribute to psychological effects of the disease. Anorexia often begins as a form of OCD, in an extreme fantasy to change the image of one’s own body, but when the long term effects of energy deficiency eventually change the body to look unhealthy( for example older) the disrupted will often become depressed. Commonly the lack of eating will lead to a decline in a social life, leaving a person isolated, alone and a prisoner of their own disorder. The person becomes to used to saying no to food, that they eventually will forget to say yes to food forming dementia, especially in older patients. Dementia is known as a mental disorder caused by a brain disease that occurs outside the natural process of aging leaving a person with errors in memory and personality disorders, including a severe loss of cognitive ability. Dementia could also be described as a loss of satiety. Insulin which is a a very closely tied chemical in the body when it comes to eating and maintaining homeostasis has been said to be a major factor in satiety as well. When fasting occurs blood sugars like insulin will be released at a higher rate, leaving evidence that lack of food may be minor cause of aging, but also that it contributes to a loss of cognitive state. OCD is another mental disorder that is the over compulsion or anxiety disorder that is characterized by obsessive thoughts behaviours and compulsions. Anorexia is known to begin as a form of OCD towards not eating, and has been proven that anorexia itself results in cognitive change and distortion. Anorexia also seems to result in many undesirable moods and even mood disorders, and feelings. It has been shown that anorexia and the lack of nutrients causes worsened awareness both emotionally and physically, and that people with anorexia will be emotionally held back when it comes to expressing emotions. Over time there will also be damage to dopamine and seretonin functioning, and it remains questionable if many of anorexia’s damaging effects can ever be reversed even after recovery. The changes in the functioning of both dopamine and serotonin due to lack of food are usually the result of mood changes.
Besides mood changes, another very interesting psychological factor or anorexia nervosa is the image of distortion. The person has a exaggerated fear of gaining weight, but often recognises that they are underweight and unhealthy. The anorexic person still continues to lose weight rapidly as though they truly believe that they are “fat”, making the mind of an anorexic and this disorder itself very controversial. The body itself is very personal, and is like no other object in our life experience, we will never experience the being of a object or in another’s body. The anorexic persons mind becomes unconsciously obsessed with this idea as the mind looks for a form of control over the only thing it has control of: its body. The feeling
